Sodablasting and sandblasting are processes that remove various surface area contaminants, including oil, dirt, rust and grease. This is done by blasting abrasive materials directly to the surface at various pressures.

Differences between Sandblasting & Sodablasting

While many might consider the two processes to be one and the same, there are in fact several distinct differences between sandblasting and sodablasting; understanding those differences will help you discern which service you require. As the name implies, our sandblasting uses non-silica sand to remove surface coating. Sandblasting is proven to be more effective when it comes to removing hard-to-remove rust and can be much quieter in its application, making it more suitable for various environments. Sandblasting can be effectively applied to buildings, walkways, monuments and a variety of industrial and commercial equipment.

Sodablasting uses a baking soda-based solution to remove surface coatings. Sodablasting can sometimes be gentler and less abrasive to your surface compared to sandblasting. While sodablasting is environmentally friendly and contains non-hazardous, non-flammable wastes, it is highly recommended that the operator still take certain safety precautions including protective gear and clothing when operating the blasting equipment. Sodablasting is also typically noisier and is recommended for applications only in enclosed, remote areas.
